The new installment of the horror and comedy saga ‘Scary Movie’ is positioned this weekend as box office leader with 105.5 million dollars worldwide, the best opening since the release of the first film in 2000.
The sixth installment of the horror comedy far surpasses its competitors and confirms the franchise’s appeal, more than two decades after its debut and with a budget of around $30 million.
According to data from the specialized website Box Office Mojo, the saga grossed $55 million in the United States and Canada and another $50.5 million in other markets.

In second position comes ‘Masters of the Universe’ (‘He-Man and the Masters of the Universe’), which has grossed 54 million worldwide with its premiere.
The figure is well below expectations for the film, which has a budget of $200 million for production alone.
New Scary Movie wins over audiences
In third place is the unexpected horror hit ‘Backrooms’, which accumulated in its second week a worldwide gross of $212 million and continues to show strength among audiences.
The film has seen its director, Kane Parsons, become the youngest director to score a number one box office hit with a project that started on YouTube.
In fourth position and with a similar story is ‘Obssesion’, which has reached $224 million worldwide since its release.

‘The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act’ closes out the top five with $19.4 million grossed in North America alone.
Left out of the top spots is Disney’s ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu’, which is in sixth place with $10 million in its third weekend, representing a 60 percent drop at the box office.
The spin-off of the Star Wars saga has grossed only 155.8 million dollars in the United States and 293 million dollars worldwide, reported Agencia EFE.
