The Leagues Cup 2025, the binational tournament that brings together MLS and Liga MX clubs, has already defined its schedule and format. It will be played between Tuesday, July 29 and Sunday, August 31, and will be a true test of physical and logistical endurance for the Mexican teams, which could play up to 10 matches in just 30 days if they advance to the Final.
This tournament, endorsed by Concacaf, has become a key showcase for the continent’s clubs. The 2025 edition of the Leagues Cup awards three tickets to the 2026 Concachampions (for the champion, runner-up and third place), which raises the competitive level of the competition.
Leagues Cup 2025 format

There are 36 teams participating in the Leagues Cup: 18 from Liga MX and 18 from MLS.
Each club will play 3 group stage matches.
In this stage there will be no duels between teams from the same league.
In the event of a tie, there will be penalty kicks to award an extra point.
Qualification is defined by a general table per country:
The top 4 clubs from each league qualify for the quarterfinals.
From the Semifinals onwards, teams from the same league may play against each other.
The tournament is played exclusively at U.S. venues.
Calendar: why is it so demanding?

Liga MX teams that reach the Semifinals or Final will have to combine the Leagues Cup with the matchdays of the Torneo Apertura 2025.
This could mean up to 6 international trips between Mexico and the United States in less than a month.
Sample schedule for a semifinalist club:
1. Group stage: July 29 – August 7 (Trip 1: MX → USA)
2. Day 4 Liga MX: August 8-11 (Trip 2: USA → MX)
3. Day 5 Liga MX: August 15-17
4. Quarterfinals: August 19-20 (Trip 3: MX → USA)
5. Round 6 Liga MX: August 22-24 (Trip 4: USA → MX)
6. Semifinal: August 26-27 (Trip 5: MX → USA)
7. Day 7 Liga MX: August 29-31 (may be postponed)
8. Third place or Final: Sunday, August 31 (Trip 6: USA → MX).
Relevance to Hispanics in the U.S.

The Leagues Cup 2025 will be a unique opportunity for Hispanic fans in the United States to see their favorite Liga MX teams compete against MLS in their own country.
Cities such as Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas and Chicago will host games with a strong Latino presence, both on the field and in the stands.
It will be played from Tuesday, July 29 to Sunday, August 31
