Colombian artists such as Carlos Vives, Fonseca, Silvestre Dangond and Fanny Lu expressed on Saturday their sorrow for the death of popular music singer Yeison Jiménez, who died along with five other people when their small plane crashed in the department of Boyacá, in the center of the country.

“I am close to the land of Yeison Jiménez. It is not easy to go out to sing today at the fair in Manizales with this sadness in my heart. I’m very sorry, much strength to his family,” he wrote on his X account Carlos Vives, along with a photo of the deceased artist, before giving a concert in that city, capital of the department of Caldas.

Yeison Jiménez, 34, born in Manzanares (Caldas), was one of the most influential artists of Colombian regional music in the last decade and a key figure in the expansion of the popular genre beyond the traditional circuits.

“My dear Yeison Jimenez, I will always remember the conversations we had a couple of times. I always admired your way of building your path. What a pain to receive this news, we all lose with your departure. Music never dies,” wrote Fonseca.

Silvestre Dangond, one of the greatest interpreters of vallenato music, published a black and white video in which he appears talking with Yeison Jiménez, to whom he wrote: “Champ, you beat us to it! The last time we laughed together, here you have us all crying”.

“Today Colombia bids farewell to an artist who left his mark, who accompanied lives, loves and farewells with his songs. Rest in peace, Yeison. Thank you for your music, for your voice and for every story sung from the heart (…) Your legacy will live on in every lyric,” singer Fanny Lu also wrote on X.

Yeison Jimenez had performed on Friday in Malaga, in the department of Santander, and was scheduled to perform this Saturday night in the municipality of Marinilla, in the department of Antioquia, near Medellin, where he was heading in his plane along with part of his team of collaborators, while his band was already waiting for him in that town.

The artist became popular with songs such as ‘Sublime mujer’, ‘Aventurero’, ‘Vete’, ‘Ni tengo ni necesito’ and ‘Mi venganza’, which consolidated him as one of the most popular artists in Colombia. In 2021 he was recognized as Latin revelation artist by Billboard magazine.
