Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed Thursday that the South Korean band BTS, the world’s most recognized k-pop group, will return to the country in 2027.

“BTS will return to Mexico in 2027. We are going to give you the dates,” announced the president during her conference in the Mexican capital, in which she shared a video of the meeting she held on Wednesday with the members of the group at the National Palace.

Claudia Sheinbaum stated that she made the proposal directly to the band after transmitting to them “a popular demand” from their Mexican fans, known as the Army, who for months had been asking for more concerts due to the high demand for tickets for their shows in Mexico City.

“I made them a proposal: do they want to return to Mexico next year?” said the president, who assured that the members responded affirmatively, although they will still have to review their agenda.

The president received the group on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Mexican Executive, after sending a letter to South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, to express the dissatisfaction of thousands of fans due to the shortage of tickets and to request arrangements so that the group could greet their Mexican fans.

According to Sheinbaum, the visit was made possible with support from the South Korean government and the Secretary of Culture, Claudia Curiel, who coordinated the meeting at the National Palace.

The president assured that close to 50,000 people gathered in the vicinity of the capital’s Zócalo to see the band, whose members came out to wave from one of the balconies of the venue.

“Mexico has an energy that no other place in the world has,” Sheinbaum said she was told by the South Korean artists, whom she described as “simple,” “modest” and “calm” young people.

She also highlighted the cultural impact of BTS among Mexican youth and noted that their songs promote messages of peace, mental health and love.

The South Korean band, one of the most recognized K-pop bands in the world, had last visited Mexico eight years ago, reported Agencia EFE, before its members completed their compulsory military service in South Korea and later resumed their activities as a group.
