Dua Lipa closed her Radical Optimism tour in Mexico City with a finale designed to stay in the memory of her fans: she performed a universal Mexican bolero, shared the stage with a Latin rock legend and, on the last night at the GNP Seguros Stadium, danced and performed “Amor prohibido” as a tribute to Selena Quintanilla, the “Queen of Tex-Mex”. The closing performance took place on Friday, December 5, the third date of a series of sold-out concerts at the stadium.
In an atmosphere of nostalgia and euphoria for the end of the tour, Dua chose to say goodbye with a nod that struck a chord in Mexico: her version of the classic associated with Selena.
According to what she said, the singer explained in Spanish that she chose that song because she felt a special connection with the artist and with the experience of “belonging” to two places at the same time. Before the audience, she expressed that she identifies herself as Albanian and English, similar to how Selena was Mexican and American.
The text also recalls that Dua Lipa was born in London in 1995, the daughter of Kosovar Albanian parents, and that in 2022 she obtained Albanian citizenship, reinforcing her family link with Albania.
Selena, on the other hand, was born in the United States and was of Mexican descent, a detail that is often mentioned to explain her unique place in popular culture.
Dua Lipa: the stadium in one voice

For that last night, a massive attendance was reported. The text mentions 65 thousand people (figure attributed to Ocesa), and the atmosphere is described as one of total celebration: shouts, cheers and slogans that became part of the moment, such as the now typical “Dua, hermana, ya eres mexicana!”, which several attendees chanted in gratitude for the tribute.
Although Friday did not have a special guest “like Tuesday”, the concert series did leave one of the most talked about postcards of the week: on December 2, during her second date at the GNP Seguros Stadium, Dua Lipa invited Fher Olvera, lead singer of Maná, to sing “Oye Mi Amor”, one of the most recognizable Latin rock anthems, as a duet. That moment quickly went viral and became one of the emotional peaks of the artist’s visit to Mexico.
The start was also special. On December 1, on his first night in the capital, he surprised with “Bésame mucho”, the classic by Consuelo Velázquez, a gesture that was read as a way of honoring a historic Mexican composer. In reports it is mentioned that she interpreted it in a version associated to the style popularized by Luis Miguel, and the song was one of the great emotional moments of the beginning of the series of shows.
With “Bésame mucho”, the duet with Maná and the final tribute to Selena, Dua Lipa built in Mexico a closing that worked as a musical celebration and, at the same time, as a cultural bridge. On three consecutive nights, the GNP Seguros Stadium became the stage where the singer sealed the end of her tour with clear references to music and shared identity between worlds.
