More than two decades after Gossip Girl became a literary and television phenomenon, Upper East Side fans have plenty of reason to celebrate.

According to information published by Deadline, the author of the iconic saga is working on a new book set in the universe that marked an entire generation. The novel will be titled Blair and will have Blair Waldorf, one of the most emblematic characters of the story, as the absolute protagonist.

The news has aroused enormous expectation among fans of the saga, who have been waiting for years to know what became of the life of the unforgettable “queen B” after the end of the series.

Gossip Girl: A mature Blair, but just as ambitious

In this new story, Blair Waldorf returns to the Upper East Side in her forties. However, far from adopting a low profile, the character returns with a clear goal: to regain her crown. This time, the challenge will not be to assert herself among Manhattan’s golden youth, but to make her way among New York’s adult elite, an environment just as competitive, sophisticated and dangerous.

The novel promises to explore how Blair deals with the passage of time, power, ambition and the unwritten rules of a world where appearances remain key. Although details of the plot are being kept under wraps, the initial approach suggests a story fraught with intrigue, rivalries and decisions that could redefine his legacy.

Among the biggest questions surrounding the book are Blair’s most iconic relationships. What happened to her friendship with Serena van der Woodsen? Did her stormy romance with Chuck Bass survive the passing years? Did she remain tied to the fashion world, one of the pillars of her identity?

For now, none of these questions have official answers, but fans are hoping that the novel will offer closure – or a new beginning – for the stories that defined the original Gossip Girl characters.

Release date and possible adaptations

The wait will not be short. According to reports, Blair will hit bookstores in the summer of 2027, which implies several months – or even years – of anticipation and speculation. However, the anticipation could be rewarded with an audiovisual adaptation.

U.S. media reports that the adaptation rights have already been acquired by Alloy Entertainment, the same production company behind the original 2007 series in collaboration with Warner Bros. The company is also responsible for hits such as The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars and You, which increases the chances of a TV or film version.

Given that the story takes place approximately 20 years after the events of the series, fans are dreaming of Leighton Meester’s return in the role that made her a pop culture icon. The actress, now 39, has resumed her screen presence with recent projects and maintains an active career, making the possibility not seem far-fetched.
