Fans of La Reina del Sur finally received the news they have been waiting for years: the fourth season of the hit series has officially begun production.
With it, Kate del Castillo returns once again to play Teresa Mendoza, one of the most emblematic characters of Spanish-language television.
After the intense ending of the third installment, the story will pick up Teresa’s life several years later, showing a completely different stage for the protagonist, although again marked by danger, betrayals and criminal conflicts.

The new season will feature Teresa attempting to rebuild her life in Madrid after having successfully escaped at the end of the previous installment. Now, “the Mexican” lives away from drug trafficking and runs a restaurant while sharing moments of tranquility with her daughter and her inseparable friend Oleg Yosikov.
However, the calm will not last long. According to the official synopsis, an unexpected tragedy will change the course of the story and force Teresa to return to Mexico, where she will once again face extreme situations.
One of the most shocking elements of this new stage will be the appearance of a criminal network linked to fentanyl trafficking, an organization that Teresa will try to dismantle.
During an interview for the program Al Rojo Vivoshow, Kate del Castillo said that viewers will see a much tougher and darker version of the character.
“You’re going to see a soulless Teresa,” the actress commented, hinting that this season will show a more emotionally intense and aggressive side of the protagonist.
During the script reading of the first episode it was also revealed that Teresa will need to build new alliances to survive and accomplish her goals.
The executive director of the project, Javier Ponsassured that the fourth season will be loaded with unexpected twists, more complex conflicts and high-impact scenes.
Although not all cast members have yet been confirmed, several important characters will be returning to the story, something that has especially excited the series’ most loyal fans.

For Kate del Castillo, returning to Teresa Mendoza’s universe also represents an emotional and artistic challenge. The actress has acknowledged on multiple occasions the deep bond she has maintained with the character since the premiere of the first season.
“It is a character that has marked me as much as I have marked her,” said the actress in an official statement. In addition, she explained that each new season has allowed her to explore different dimensions of Teresa, taking her now into a much more emotional and deeper territory.
