Veteran Guillermo Ochoa, goalkeeper for AEL Limassol of Cyprus, said Monday that he is excited to begin training with the Mexican national team, with which he could attend his sixth World Cup, an all-time record.
“Today begins my last training camp, but this time I look at it differently. With a fuller heart, with more scars, more memories and the same illusion of that child who one day dreamed of defending this shield,” said the goalkeeper through a message on his Instagram account.
Memo Ochoa thrills Mexico

In the publication, Memo Ochoa appears with the Mexican national team’s jersey.
The goalkeeper assured that he is already concentrated with the group of 20 players with whom coach Javier ‘Vasco’ Aguirre has been working since last Thursday.
He said he is ready for his last World Cup.
“I am at home. I am with my national team and as long as there is an opportunity to fight for this country there will be my soul first.”
“Soccer may measure the years, but passion has never learned to count time. On the road to the 2026 World Cup,” the 40-year-old wrote.
Memo Ochoa has been a national team member for the 2006 World Cup in Germany and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, in which he did not see action, in addition to Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022, in which he was a starter.
Relive his World Cup legacy

Throughout his career, which began with Mexican club América, the goalkeeper had an extensive international career that began with French club Ajaccio.
He went on to Spain’s Malaga and Granada, Belgium’s Standard Liege, Italy’s Salernitana, Portugal’s AVS Futebol and now Cypriot AEL Limassol.
Memo Ochoa underscored his pride at wearing the green jersey again at the world’s top soccer event.

“Putting this jersey back on was never routine, it was a privilege.”
“I have lived through impossible nights, eternal stadiums, hymns that still shake me and moments that changed my life forever.”
“And yet every time Mexico calls, something inside me starts all over again,” he concluded.
Although the favorite to be the starter in the next World Cup is Guadalajara goalkeeper Raúl Rangel, Ochoa will compete for the position with him and Carlos Acevedo, from Santos, who is also included in the call-up list.
