Artists Carlos Vives and Myke Towers will be recognized by Premios Juventud as ‘Agents of Change’ for “their unwavering commitment to social impact, community development and cultural preservation throughout Latin America,” the TelevisaUnivision network announced Wednesday.

Both international artists will be honored during a ceremony to be held on September 25 in Panama.

Vives will receive this recognition “for his decades of dedication to cultural and community development in Colombia and Latin America,” the organization said in a statement, which especially highlights the work of his foundation “Tras la perla’.

This association “leads sustainable initiatives focused on improving education, welfare and environmental conservation in Santa Marta and its surroundings” and “places a strong emphasis on the preservation of the Afro-Colombian and indigenous heritage, working to build an inclusive and resilient social model,” he said.

While the distinction for Towers is due to “his high-impact work with the Young Kingz Foundation.”

This NGO is aimed at empowering vulnerable communities, mainly in Puerto Rico and Latin America, through access to sports, education and personal development opportunities.

In this regard, the press release indicated that last year the foundation “remodeled seven boxing gyms in collaboration with the Municipality of San Juan” and that it plans a pilot program of soccer training mixed with nutrition, at the same time that it seeks to expand to other areas.

In addition to receiving both awards, the two artists will also perform during the awards ceremony. Vives will first perform the single ‘La tierra del olvido’ with Grupo Niche, followed by a surprise collaboration with Sergio George.

Towers will perform recent hits from his new album such as ‘Soleao’, ‘Expectativas’ and ‘Tengo celos’, as well as the song ‘Degenere’.

This edition of the Premios Juventud will be the first to be held outside the United States to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month in Panama City.

In total, 231 artists are competing in 41 categories: 30 in music, three in television and streaming, and eight in social networks, reported Agencia EFE.
