British singer Rod Stewart called U.S. President Donald Trump a “scoundrel” in a conversation Monday night with King Charles III, whom he congratulated for “putting the Republican leader in his place” on his recent visit to Washington, The Times reports Tuesday.
During a salute in the concert hall at the Royal Albert Hall, on the occasion of the King’s Trust’s 50th anniversary celebration, Stewart told the monarch that he had been “magnificent” on his state visit to the U.S. last April.
“Let me tell you: well done America! You were magnificent, absolutely magnificent – put that scoundrel in his place!” said Stewart in reference to Trump.
During his four-day visit to the U.S. this month, in which Charles and Queen Camilla were hosted by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania, the king addressed Congress and tackled issues such as NATO, support for Ukraine and climate change, issues that appear to be not to the White House’s liking.

Moreover, in a speech at a state dinner in Washington, Charles III joked with his hosts about the history of the former British colony, saying, “If it weren’t for us, you’d be speaking French!”
During Monday’s gala, Stewart and Charles III were seen talking as Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood smiled beside him.
The king continued the conversation briefly, but it was not possible to hear what he was saying. Shortly thereafter, Stewart turned to Queen Camilla, to whom he remarked that he was congratulating the monarch on his “for his wonderful performance in America.”
Monday’s event at the Royal Albert Hall was a celebration of young people from across the United Kingdom who have received various grants from the King’s Trust charity since it was created in 1976, when the King was Prince of Wales, reported Agencia EFE.
