Trump in controversy after Venezuela win

U.S. President Donald Trump once again suggested Venezuela as a new U.S. state after the South American team beat the North American country’s ninth team to win its first World Baseball Classic.

“Statehood”, the president posted on his Truth Social account after Venezuela defeated the United States 3-2 in Miami in the WBC final.

Trump insists on Venezuela

The president’s reaction was a reiteration of his sarcastic comment on Monday when he celebrated Venezuela’s victory over Italy in the semifinals and said:

“Good things are happening to Venezuela lately. I wonder what this magic is due to… State number 51?”.

On March 5, the U.S. State Department announced that it had agreed with the interim Venezuelan authorities to “reestablish diplomatic and consular relations”.

This comes two months after the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in an operation ordered by Trump.

Subsequently, on the 10th, the State Department notified the New York court handling the case against Maduro that it formally recognized Delcy Rodriguez as head of state of the South American nation.
