Switzerland defeated Mexico (3-1) in the last match of the group stage of the FIFA<\/a> U-17 World Cup in Qatar, complicating the continuity of the team coached by Carlos Cari\u00f1o in the championship as the best third-place team, pending the results of Burkina Faso and Uganda in their respective matches.<\/p>\n

The Swiss took the lead in the first half with two goals by Mladen Mijajlovic and Felix Contreras in his own goal. In the 57th minute Aldo de Nigris pulled one back for Mexico, but in the following play Mijajlovic scored the third to seal the match.<\/p>\n

With this result, Switzerland advances to the Round of 16 of the U-17 World Cup as first place in Group F with seven points.<\/p>\n

They are followed by South Korea, also with seven, while Mexico, with only a 1-0 win over C\u00f4te d’Ivoire, is in third place with three.<\/p>\n

Of the twelve groups, the first and second teams of each group will qualify directly for the round of 16.<\/p>\n

Among the third place finishers, only the top eight will qualify.<\/p>\n

Mexico, with three points and a goal difference of -2, will have to wait to see what Burkina Faso does tomorrow against Tajikistan and Uganda against France to know their fate.<\/p>\n

The 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup takes place from November 3-27 in Qatar, marking the first annual edition and expanded format to 48 teams, up from the traditional 24.<\/p>\n
