The President of the United States, Donald Trump, declared that his country will “take charge of filling” the power vacuum left, in his words, by Nicol\u00e1s Maduro in Venezuela<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The President assured that Washington will not allow figures linked to Chavism to assume that position and stated that the U.S. presence will be temporary, only until a political transition takes place in the South American country. “Basically we are going to run the country until there is a transition”, he affirmed during his public statements.<\/p>\n

Trump explained that the United States will remain in Venezuela while new political and economic conditions are established. In this context, he announced that his government will invest millions of dollars in the Venezuelan oil infrastructure, with the intention of reactivating a sector he considers strategic.<\/p>\n

According to the Republican president, the goal is for Venezuela to become “a rich, independent and secure country”, and to awaken the interest of multiple nations to participate in its economic reconstruction.<\/p>\n

Accusations against Nicol\u00e1s Maduro<\/h2>\n

The president insisted that Nicol\u00e1s Maduro is a narco-terrorist, whom he accuses of having directed drug trafficking operations to the United States. In support of these claims, Trump mentioned the formal accusation filed against him in New York, stressing that he will face US justice. “Maduro will face U.S. justice, on U.S. soil,” he said.<\/p>\n

Trump also confirmed that the Venezuelan leader is on a boat bound for New York, although he noted that there is a possibility that he may arrive in Miami first. According to the president, Maduro has clung to power to carry out a campaign of violence both in Venezuela and against the United States and other countries in the region, mainly through drug trafficking.<\/p>\n

From his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Trump assured that the United States launched a “spectacular” deployment to capture Nicol\u00e1s Maduro, an action that, he said, will be marked in the history of the country. He compared this operation with previous military actions, such as the attack against Qasem Soleimani, leader of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and operations against Iranian nuclear infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The President affirmed that the Venezuelan army surrendered to the US forces and that they caused a blackout in Venezuela during the operation. He also indicated that Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, will face charges in the United States for narcoterrorism.<\/p>\n

Trump congratulated the U.S. military and law enforcement agencies for what he called a “swift and expeditious” operation. He stressed that no U.S. personnel were killed and no military equipment was lost. “Once again we are a nation that is respected in the world,” he assured.<\/p>\n

Finally, he reiterated that the US military is “the most powerful on the planet” and affirmed that, if the country’s enemies were to witness its military capacity, “they would be surprised”. He also recalled the attacks on alleged narco-boats, noting that these actions have reduced by 97% the entry of drugs by sea into the United States.<\/p>\n
