Tijuana, the team coached by former Uruguayan striker Sebasti\u00e1n ‘Loco’ Abreu, drew goalless with Am\u00e9rica on Friday in the first match of the first day of the Mexican Clausura<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tijuana came close to taking the lead in the last play of the first half. Ecuador’s Adonis Preciado appeared on the right flank and set up Moroccan Mourad El Ghuezouani, who was erratic in his finishing. <\/p>\n

The second half started the same, with both teams concentrating on defense.<\/p>\n

In the 61st minute, Am\u00e9rica came close to opening the scoring when Aguirre’s shot was saved by Tijuana goalkeeper Antonio Rodr\u00edguez.<\/p>\n

Both sides seemed content with the draw and attacked little in the final 20 minutes.<\/p>\n

In another result, Montenegrin Uros Djurdjevic converted a penalty to give Atlas a 1-0 win over Puebla.<\/p>\n

Portuguese coach Pedro Caixinha’s Ju\u00e1rez defeated Mazatl\u00e1n 1-2 at their own stadium yesterday.<\/p>\n

The tournament will continue this Saturday, when champion Toluca visits Monterrey, Pachuca visits Guadalajara, Cruz Azul visits Le\u00f3n and Necaxa visits Santos Laguna.<\/p>\n

The first date of the championship will conclude on Sunday with the Pumas-Queretaro and San Luis-Tigres matches.<\/p>\n

Xolos de Tijuana wrote the most glorious page of its history in the 2012 Apertura, when it won the only Liga MX championship since its foundation.<\/p>\n

Under the technical direction of Antonio Mohamed, the border team surprised Mexican soccer with an offensive, intense and very solid style at home.<\/p>\n

Tijuana finished as super leader of the regular phase and confirmed its great momentum in the Liguilla.<\/p>\n

In the quarterfinals they eliminated Monterrey, in the semifinals they knocked out Le\u00f3n and in the final they faced Toluca.<\/p>\n

After a 2-2 draw in the first leg, the Xolos won 2-0 at the Estadio Caliente, sealing the title with authority.<\/p>\n

The likes of Duvier Riascos, Fidel Mart\u00ednez, Alfredo Moreno and Cirilo Saucedo were key players in Tijuana’s historic campaign.<\/p>\n

The championship consolidated Xolos as a serious project in Liga MX and marked a before and after for soccer on Mexico’s northern border.<\/p>\n
