Julio Iglesias’ lawyers<\/a> welcome the decision of the Spanish Prosecutor’s Office to close the investigation into the alleged sexual harassment and assault of two former female employees and underline the “public lynching” that, in their opinion, he has suffered “as a result of the orchestration of a media montage”, which has caused him “irreparable” damage.<\/p>\n

Sources of the singer’s legal team referred this Friday to the decision of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Audiencia Nacional to shelve the investigation opened against him following a complaint by two former employees for alleged sexual harassment and assault in 2021 in the Dominican Republic and Bahamas, due to the “lack of jurisdiction” and competence of the Spanish courts.<\/p>\n

The alleged facts affect a former employee of the singer’s home and a physiotherapist, who provided work documents, photographs, recordings, WhatsApp messages and call logs to prove the veracity of their accusations, which include sexual assault, harassment and systematic labor humiliation.<\/p>\n

Julio Iglesias and the case against him<\/h2>\n

The two women filed the complaint on January 5, represented by the organization Women’s Link, and stated that they were doing it so that others would report it and not suffer this type of abuse again.<\/p>\n

The Spanish singer’s lawyers express their satisfaction with the decision of the Spanish Prosecutor’s Office and maintain that “it has been based on the law and current jurisprudence”.<\/p>\n

However, they do not want to overlook “the public lynching” that the artist has suffered “as a result of the orchestration of a media montage”.<\/p>\n

“The damage caused to Julio Iglesias has been enormous and irreparable, affecting not only his public image, but also him and his family environment,” says the statement, which adds that they will continue to work “for justice, truth and the complete restoration of his honorability.”<\/p>\n

The organizations Women’s Link and Amnesty International, which advise the former employees of Julio Iglesias who denounced the artist in Spain, also commented on the dismissal of the complaint and considered the decision “regrettable”, while announcing that the two women “will continue to fight for justice and will resort to the available legal channels”.<\/p>\n

For its rejection, the Prosecutor’s Office argues, reported Agencia EFE, that Spanish law requires, among other things, that the defendant be a Spanish citizen, that there be no proceedings open in the place where the acts were committed or in an international court, and that there be a “material connection with Spain”, for example, that the victims be Spanish or residents in the country.<\/p>\n
