The 25th edition of the Olympic Winter Games, officially known as Milan-Cortina 2026, will be held from February 6 to 22, 2026 and promises to be one of the most innovative in history. Italy will opt for a decentralized model, with venues spread over 22,000 square kilometers, connecting the urban modernity of Milan with the alpine tradition of Cortina d’Ampezzo, Valtellina and Val di Fiemme.<\/p>\n

This approach seeks to set a new standard in sustainability, infrastructure reuse and regional balance, an increasingly relevant trend in major international sporting events.<\/p>\n

The opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games will be held on February 6, 2026 at the San Siro Stadium<\/a> in Milan, under the title “Harmony”.<\/p>\n

The show, creatively directed by Marco Balich, will seek to reflect Italian cultural identity with a message focused on humanity and peace, marking the official start of the competition.<\/p>\n

The road to the cauldron began on November 26, 2025 with the lighting of the flame in Olympia, Greece.<\/p>\n

After its official handover to Italy in Athens on December 4, the torch began a 12,000-kilometer national journey from Rome.<\/p>\n

Visiting landmarks such as the Grand Canal of Venice and returning to Cortina d’Ampezzo on January 26, 2026.<\/p>\n

Exactly 70 years after the 1956 Winter Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

The flame will arrive at the San Siro on opening day.<\/p>\n

This edition of the Olympic Winter Games will feature 116 medal events in 16 disciplines, making it the most diverse in history.<\/p>\n

The ice competitions will be concentrated in Milan, while the snow competitions will be held mainly in Cortina.<\/p>\n

The big novelty will be the debut of ski mountaineering, in addition to adjustments in traditional disciplines to promote gender equality and mixed events.<\/p>\n
