The medical examiner of Hennepin County, in Minneapolis (Minnesota), declared Monday the death of Alex Pretti, the nurse killed on January 24 by immigration agents, a homicide.<\/p>\n

A brief report released Feb. 2 by the coroner’s office states that Pretti died of multiple gunshot wounds at Hennepin Healthcare Hospital and that his case is a homicide.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It is also noted that the nurse, who died at the age of 37, was shot by agents of the security forces.<\/p>\n

Alex Pretti died Jan. 24 after being shot by immigration agents during an operation to apprehend an immigrant in Minneapolis.<\/p>\n

Several officers surrounded the man, restrained him and seized a gun before shooting him several times as he lay on the ground, according to numerous videos of the event.<\/p>\n

Alex Pretti’s was the second such incident<\/a> in less than three weeks in Minneapolis, where on January 7 a woman, Renee Good<\/a>, was shot and killed by an ICE officer.<\/p>\n

As in the case of Alex Pretti, the medical examiner’s office ruled the death of Good, who was also 37 years old, a homicide.<\/p>\n

Last weekend, ProPublica reported that the agents who shot Pretti are Jesus Ochoa, from the Border Patrol (USBP), and Raymundo Gutierrez, from Customs and Border Protection<\/a> (CBP).<\/p>\n

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the agents responsible for the nurse’s death have been suspended from duty.<\/p>\n

For its part, the Justice Department<\/a> reported Friday that it has launched an investigation into possible civil rights violations in the case, following a wave of intense protests in the city and the demands of several legislators.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
