Mexico’s Regina Martinez made history for her country this Thursday, February 12, by becoming the first representative in cross-country skiing at the Olympic Winter Games in Milan Cortina 2026<\/a>, where she left an image to remember, embraced and acclaimed by her rivals and medalists as she crossed the finish line almost 11 minutes later.<\/p>\n

The Mexican was thrilled as she crossed the finish line. She made national history in a Games by being the first in this modality in which she finished last, but with the world recognition of the sport and, above all and more palpable, that of the other three winners of the discipline, who awaited her arrival to receive her with honors.<\/p>\n

Regina Martinez first received a hug from Brazil’s Bruna Moura.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, congratulations to the three medalists, Sweden’s Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson, and Jessie Diggins of the United States.<\/p>\n

Those who awaited the arrival of their rival were aware of the historic moment.<\/p>\n

The 10 kilometers covered by the Mexican athlete were the least important thing, because the image will remain in Olympic history.<\/p>\n
