Medicine is often associated with sleepless nights and a photographic memory capable of reciting encyclopedias. However, for Dr. Carlos Yebra, creator of the successful podcast Medicina con Cabeza, the real rebellion was not learning more, but learning better. HERE<\/a> you can listen to the podcast.<\/p>\n

Today, we celebrate his arrival to the Qu\u00e9Onnda and Nueva Network family, an alliance that seeks to bring high quality medical information to audiences in the United States and Latin America. We talked with him about his method, his leap into cardiology and why memory is sometimes a doctor’s worst enemy.<\/p>\n

It all started in his third year, when Carlos Yebra realized that he was “struggling not to fail”.<\/p>\n

It was there that he decided that he didn’t want to just survive medicine, but enjoy it.<\/p>\n

“I wanted to create my own method based on understanding. Memory gets exhausted, memory dissipates and you need to create connections in your brain that can get to what you studied… understanding is much more worthwhile. It’s an investment.<\/p>\n

The challenge of “lowering the bar” to save lives<\/h2>\n

For Dr. Yebra, cardiology is not just a technical specialty; it is an exercise in logic.<\/p>\n

However, he confesses that the most difficult thing is not making a complex diagnosis, but communication.<\/p>\n

“The most difficult thing is having already a level of knowledge, trying to lower that level so that anyone can understand it.<\/p>\n

That ‘keep it simple’ part…a lot of times we try to explain it with our words, but also with our level of complexity.”<\/p>\n

This approach has led it to transform its content.<\/p>\n

Now, he not only speaks for students looking to pass the MIR, but for patients who need to understand why they are short of breath.<\/p>\n

“Explaining a disease to a patient is more difficult than to a medical student because a patient doesn’t know anything,” he says honestly.<\/p>\n
