Car\u00edn Le\u00f3n, an icon of Mexico’s regional music genre<\/a>, hoped on Tuesday that her US tour, ‘De Sonora para el mundo’, would be a “voice of encouragement” for the Mexican community in the face of the “ugly things that are happening” in migration, such as the separation of families.<\/p>\n

“I think what I can do most is to continue supporting, to continue serving as a voice of encouragement and to continue making music for all our race that is having a hard time,” the artist said in an interview with EFE in Miami.<\/p>\n

The singer, who has just won the Grammy for best Mexican music album for the second consecutive year, begins a tour on May 20 in Hidalgo, a Texas city on the Mexican border, which includes almost 40 dates in the United States and one in Toronto, Canada.<\/p>\n

When asked how he feels that his concerts, mostly in Texas, California and Las Vegas, are a meeting point for the Mexican community in the face of the current immigration situation in the United States, the artist said that he wants his concerts to help “get over the bitter pills” and inspire people to better themselves.<\/p>\n

“May my music serve as an example of overcoming and thinking that everything is possible, and turning it around, and having something sweet within all this ugly thing that is happening,” he declared.<\/p>\n

The singer, originally from the border state of Sonora, expressed that it is “hard not to empathize” when seeing “all these family separations or seeing all these clips of children being separated from their families” and in “somewhat strong ways”.<\/p>\n

Car\u00edn Le\u00f3n: A Mexican who triumphs in the heart of country music<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Mexican artist’s tour comes after the success of his album ‘Palabra de To’s (Seca)’, with which he won a Grammy, in addition to successfully venturing into country music, with which he has conquered the Anglo-American public beyond Mexicans and Latinos.<\/p>\n

Last June, the performer became the first Latin artist with his own track listing in the Spotify House at CMA Fest, a country festival in Nashville, Tenneessee, in the southern United States, where he also debuted in 2024 at the Grand Ole Opry, the genre’s main stage.<\/p>\n

She also released the duet ‘She Hurts Like Tequila’ with country icon Cody Johnson and is now preparing an all-English country album for later this year or early next year.<\/p>\n

“It is an album that we have been working on for about two years, where we have been recording, coming out, polishing songs. We hope to be able to release it, it has been delayed, we were going to release it last year, around the middle of the year”, explained the singer, whose real name is Oscar Armando Diaz de Leon.<\/p>\n

The reason for the delay is the success of ‘Palabra de To’s (Seca)’ and the upcoming release of ‘Boca Chueca Vol. 2’.<\/p>\n

But, to those who attend his concerts, he promises that his foray into country “adds a lot of new music, a lot of styles, a lot of different things”, which “brings a lot of freshness to the show”.<\/p>\n

Despite being an exponent of regional Mexican music, Car\u00edn Le\u00f3n defends her versatility, as she has sung genres such as rock and R&B, and has performed duets with artists as diverse as Kanny Garc\u00eda, Maluma, Bon Jovi and Carlos Santana.<\/p>\n

“Regional Mexican, I have a problem, not a problem, but that the genre sounds to me like a frame, it sounds to me like a rule, a limit. So, for me, I don’t know what we can call regional Mexican, I don’t know what fits,” he said.<\/p>\n

The ‘De Sonora para el mundo’ tour also includes more than 10 dates in Las Vegas, USA, where he will be the first Latin artist to perform at The Sphere, reported Agencia EFE.<\/p>\n
