25 years after their debut, Gorillaz proves that they are still relevant with the release of The Mountain, their ninth studio album. The project led by Damon Albarn (music) and Jamie Hewlett (visual art) maintains the virtual essence that revolutionized the industry in 2001, but now with a global and collaborative look that connects with new generations. <\/p>\n

The album<\/a> includes 15 songs and was produced by Albarn together with James Ford, Remi Kabaka Jr., Samuel Egglenton and Argentine producer Bizarrap, who participates in the track “Orange County”. Other highlights include collaborations with Trueno on “The Manifesto” and sitarist Anoushka Shankar, whose sonic presence is key to much of the album.<\/p>\n

Gorillaz’ The Mountain was recorded in studios in London, Devon, Mumbai, New Delhi, Rajasthan, Varanasi, Ashgabat, Damascus, Los Angeles, Miami and New York.<\/p>\n

Reflecting a cultural mix that can be heard in its five languages: English, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi and Yoruba.<\/p>\n

The sound incorporates influences ranging from Britpop and electronica to elements of Afrobeat and classical Indian music.<\/p>\n

The cover shows the characters 2-D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel Hobbs on top of a mountain, with the title written in Hindi (“parvat”).<\/p>\n
