Extreme heat. <\/p>\n<p>If they were to move the clock forward one hour in summer, sunset would occur much later (9:00 PM type).<\/p>\n<p>That would mean people would have to endure the scorching sun and temperatures over 100\u00b0F (40\u00b0C) for longer in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>By staying on standard time, the sun sets &#8220;earlier,&#8221; which helps houses cool down earlier and people don&#8217;t spend a million dollars on air conditioning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fun fact:<\/strong> The Navajo Nation (which is within Arizona) does change the schedule to be in sync with their territories that cross into Utah and New Mexico &#8211; a breeze if you&#8217;re driving through there! <\/p>\n<p>Hawaii simply has no use for it.<\/p>\n<p>As it is very close to the equator, the length of day and night hardly varies throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>In other states further north, in winter it gets dark at 4:00 PM and so they need to &#8220;gain light&#8221;, but in Hawaii they always have a very consistent sun schedule.<\/p>\n<p>For them, moving the clock would only cause confusion with flights and tourism without any real benefit.<\/p>\n<p>Like Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands are in tropical zones.<\/p>\n<p>Being so close to the equator, the sun rises and sets at almost the same time in both December and June.<\/p>\n<p>There is no need to &#8220;save energy&#8221; by stretching daylight because the sun does its job all year round.<\/p>\n<h2>The economic factor and the &#8220;Sunshine Protection Act&#8221;.<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend, with clocks moving forward one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday.
