The singer<\/a> Chiquis pauses her Mexican banda albums, of which she is an icon in the United States, by releasing this Thursday ‘Janney’, an album that showcases her more “vulnerable” side with songs about “healing” and collaborations with Lila Downs and Jesse & Joy.<\/p>\n

“I knew that many people were going to be a little confused, perhaps, because what I sing is a band, but this is also very real for me, and I came, or rather I came back and returned to my essence, through a process of healing, of saying: ‘OK, this healing is going to be my whole life,'” he said in an interview with EFE in Miami.<\/p>\n

The album, titled with the artist’s real name, shows the “more vulnerable side” of Chiquis, daughter of the late Diva de la Banda, Jenni Rivera, who is a three-time Latin Grammy winner in the Best Banda Album category for ‘Playlist’ (2020), ‘Abeja reina’ (2022) and ‘Diamantes’ (2024).<\/p>\n

“My voice is much softer in this music. It’s like a side of my voice that I didn’t even know. Thanks to the band, which was my school, that I learned, because singing band is not easy at all, but through that school I found and this voice was born, which, I think, perhaps in a certain way, I was afraid to leave,” she said.<\/p>\n

Chiquis and her new album ‘Janney’: A “journey for healing”.<\/h2>\n

The Los Angeles-born Californian promises to take the audience on “a journey” through the 20 songs of the material, which she describes as a “continuous” 45-minute album and “a healing adventure” for them to “understand well” what she has “survived”.<\/p>\n

“At the time I also forgot how good life is and also hope, and that’s why I wanted for my people who will listen to the album, but also for me, to be able to let go and tell this side of me that many people have not seen,” said the singer.<\/p>\n

The album includes ‘Malibu’, a collaboration with Mexican duo Jesse & Joy about the joy of living in the present, and ‘Espiritu’, a track with Mexican-American singer-songwriter Lila Downs, known for blending contemporary genres with her indigenous roots and Mexican folk music.<\/p>\n

The production, Chiquis’ ninth studio album, is a contemporary pop sound with hints of folk, cumbia and other genres.<\/p>\n

It flows between Spanish and English, and is released under his own record label, Sweet Sound Records.<\/p>\n

“I am no longer afraid of life, I am no longer afraid of what people will say, I am doing what my soul wants to do and before I was doing what I had to do to survive. Now I am living, I am enjoying the present,” she emphasized.<\/p>\n

The entrepreneur was the presenter last week of Billboard Latin Women in Music 2026, a gala in Miami that honored artists such as Rosalia, Gloria Trevi, Ivy Queen, Julieta Venegas, Lola Indigo, Young Miko and Jesse & Joy’s Joy Huerta.<\/p>\n

Chiquis highlighted the “great role” of women in the rise of Spanish-language music, an industry that achieved its tenth consecutive year of growth in 2025 in the United States to a peak of $1 billion in revenue.<\/p>\n

The artist celebrated the fact that the idea “that only a woman can be in every genre” as in the band, as it was thought for “a long time that Mexican music can only be sung by men” has been demolished.<\/p>\n

“Thanks to my mother, Jenni Rivera, even if she wasn’t my mom, I would be a fan of her music because she represents the power to say: ‘Even if they tell me no, I’m going to show them that I can,'” she concluded, reported Agencia EFE.<\/p>\n
