The U.S. judiciary handed down a new conviction Wednesday for the death of ‘Friends’<\/a> star Matthew Perry, this time to the key contact, Erik Fleming, who coordinated the arrival of ketamine to the celebrity’s home.<\/p>\n

His conviction is one of the last resolutions in the case, after those already imposed on several people involved, including two doctors and the supplier, nicknamed the ‘Ketamine Queen’.<\/p>\n

The progress of the judicial process makes it possible to unravel the fundamental points that define the convictions of a complex supply network and the future of Kenneth Iwamasa, the last person implicated in the case, whose sentencing is scheduled for May 27.<\/p>\n

Erik Fleming’s sentencing for causing the death of Matthew Perry
\n<\/b><\/h2>\n

The Los Angeles federal court on Wednesday imposed a sentence of two years in prison and three years of probation for Fleming, in addition to imposing a $200 fine.<\/p>\n

The defendant pleaded guilty, at a previous hearing held on August 8, to having procured the vials, provided by Jasveen Sangha, known as the ‘Ketamine Queen’, to personally deliver them to Perry’s assistant in the days leading up to the death.<\/p>\n

Fleming had admitted direct responsibility for the delivery of 50 vials of ketamine, half of which were supplied during the last four days of Perry’s life.<\/p>\n

After Fleming’s conviction, only a final ruling against Perry’s personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, will be pending, scheduled for May 27, and with which the U.S. justice system will close the case of the interpreter’s death.<\/p>\n

Iwamasa confessed to being directly responsible for administering the doses of ketamine to the actor in his last weeks of life, going so far as to inject him with the substance “repeatedly without medical training, including multiple injections” on the day of his death, according to the prosecution.<\/p>\n

The indictment alleges that physician Salvador Plasencia instructed Iwamasa to “inject Perry with ketamine,” leaving vials for him to self-administer without proper safety equipment.<\/p>\n

Iwamasa faces a possible sentence of up to 15 years in federal prison.<\/p>\n

The balance sheet of a dismantled network<\/b><\/h2>\n

These latest court rulings complete the map of responsibilities, which includes Sangha, as well as Dr. Plasencia and Dr. Mark Ch\u00e1vez, definitively closing one of the most mediatic criminal investigations in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

Sangha was sentenced on April 8 to 15 years in prison for her role in trafficking the painkiller that caused Perry’s death.<\/p>\n

According to court documents, the Ketamine Queen collaborated with Fleming to distribute the substance to Perry, knowing of the performer’s drug addiction problems.<\/p>\n

On December 16, physician Mark Chavez was sentenced to eight months of house arrest and ordered to perform 300 hours of community service.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Salvador Plasencia, the first of the five defendants to be tried in court and who pleaded guilty to facilitating ketamine, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison on December 3.<\/p>\n

His sentence includes two years of supervised release and payment of a $5,600 fine.<\/p>\n

Perry, popularly known for his character of Chandler Bing in the ‘Friends’ series, had spoken publicly about his struggle with addictions in his memoir ‘Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir’ (2022), Agencia EFE reported.<\/p>\n
