Tropical music and, especially, Puerto Rican salsa music bid farewell to one of its most emblematic figures. Sammy Marrero<\/span><\/span>recognized for being the unmistakable voice of La Selecta<\/span><\/span>died at the age of 84, leaving an indelible legacy in the history of Latin music.<\/p>\n

The news was confirmed by his daughter, Jennissa Marrero, through an emotional message published on social networks, where she remembered not only the artist admired by thousands of people, but also the loving father and exceptional human being who marked the life of his family.<\/p>\n

“Papi was much more than a great singer and a voice beloved by the public; he was an extraordinary human being, a loving father, grandfather, family member and unforgettable friend,” Jennissa wrote in her publication.<\/p>\n

He also thanked the countless expressions of affection, support and prayers received after the death of the interpreter.<\/p>\n

“His legacy will live forever in his music,<\/a> in his history and in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing and admiring him,” he said.<\/p>\n

Dayanara Torres pays tribute and dresses in mourning<\/h2>\n

Among the many reactions was that of Dayanara Torres<\/span><\/span>who shared a heartfelt message recalling the importance that Sammy’s music had in her family life.<\/p>\n

“Today salsa and Puerto Rico are in mourning,” wrote the former Miss Universe. “Sammy Marrero was much more than a voice; he was part of our families, of those unforgettable moments at home and of the songs our parents proudly played.” <\/p>\n

Torres confessed that the singer’s voice will always remind him of his father and his deep love for salsa.<\/p>\n

Born in Coamo<\/span><\/span>Sammy Marrero was surrounded by music since childhood. According to the National Foundation for Popular Culture<\/span><\/span>one of his earliest influences was his mother, whom he would accompany to the river while she sang traditional coplas and aguinaldos. <\/p>\n

Those melodies planted in him a passion that would accompany him throughout his life.<\/p>\n

His talent began to stand out when he won an amateur contest at the Teatro Carmen in Bayam\u00f3n. From that moment on, he began an artistic journey that led him to join groups such as Trio Los Tempest and various Puerto Rican musical ensembles, until he consolidated his position as one of the most beloved voices of the genre. <\/p>\n

An eternal legacy in salsa<\/h2>\n

With La Selecta, Sammy Marrero performed songs that marked generations and became an essential part of the musical culture of Puerto Rico and all of Latin America.<\/p>\n

His unique style, his vocal power and his deep connection with the public made him an indispensable figure in salsa.<\/p>\n
