The Malaga actor<\/a> Antonio Banderas has responded to some reports that the Caixabank Soho Theater he promoted in Malaga is in the red and has assured “No, my friends, I’m not ruined, I’m in the red”.<\/p>\n

In a statement released through social networks, Banderas has assured that “the ruin” of which he is made “victim in certain media does not exist”.<\/p>\n

“I find it disheartening to have to give again explanations that I have repeated, over and over again, about my goals in my theatrical projects. I am sorry for those who might find some pleasure in this being so,” he said.<\/p>\n

The “goal” at the Soho Caixabank Theater is “to do things as I think they should be done and try to seek excellence in our productions, beyond the economic deficit that these entail, and that, thank God, I can assume without any problem. That is the pact with my passion for theater, for my city, and with myself,” he said.<\/p>\n

“If I had wanted to make money, it would have been very easy,” Banderas said, adding that he has “preferred to do big productions,” in which he has “given work to hundreds of people,” and which have allowed him to enjoy himself in a way that “he had not done” in his entire career.<\/p>\n

And he has warned that he will “continue to do so”, as he has said in press conferences and in different interviews “on countless occasions”.<\/p>\n

He clarified that the CaixaBank Soho Theater is “a private non-profit company that operates more like a public theater”. This implies that “the project does not receive subsidies from public money and will not do so as long as I am alive,” he said. <\/p>\n

“I am responsible for the expenses derived from undertaking very expensive projects that you will hardly see in companies that have to present a profit and loss account,” he said, and then thanked the sponsors who “accompany him in this adventure”.<\/p>\n

After recalling that last year, including the production that came to Madrid, the Soho Theater had “almost 200,000 spectators”, he said: “We have managed to break the mold over the years and we will continue to do so”.<\/p>\n

“No friends, I’m not broke, I’m at the top of my game! And I’m threateningly happy!” concluded the businessman, reported Agencia EFE.<\/p>\n
