In February 2025, Pope Francis, 88, was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital due to bilateral pneumonia<\/a> that seriously compromised his health.<\/span> During his hospitalization, the pontiff faced multiple respiratory complications, including episodes of acute respiratory failure and bronchospasm crises.<\/span><\/p>\n

These critical situations led the medical team to consider suspending active treatment to allow him to die peacefully.<\/span> <\/p>\n

However, Massimiliano Strappetti, the pontiff’s personal nurse, insisted on continuing with all available treatments, arguing that he knew the pope’s will to fight for his recovery.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thanks to this determination and the combined efforts of the healthcare staff, Francisco showed a marked improvement in his condition.<\/span> <\/p>\n

After more than a month of hospitalization and a rigorous rehabilitation process, Pope Francis was discharged on March 23, 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n

On his departure, he greeted the faithful from the window of his room, showing signs of recovery, although still with certain physical difficulties.<\/span><\/p>\n

The doctors recommended an additional period of rest of at least two months to ensure a full recovery.<\/span><\/p>\n
