But when it comes to how much they earn, not everyone gets the same for the same effort.<\/p>\n<p>And many Latinos, especially those in manual, casual or unsalaried jobs, have noticed this without anyone having to tell them. Now, the data confirms it: yes, Latinos continue to earn less. And in some states, the wage gap is wider than ever.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>What does the latest data say?<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_38915\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38915\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-38915\" src=\"https:\/\/queonnda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/latinos-ganan-menos-03.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1197\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-38915\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image created by Qu\u00e9Onnda with the help of Artificial Intelligence (GPT)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>An analysis by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bureau of Labor Statistics<\/a> and the Economic Policy Institute, updated in 2025, found that Latino workers earn, on average, 24% less than non-Latino white workers, even when performing similar jobs.<\/p>\n<p>The gap is more serious in sectors such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Construction<\/li>\n<li>Cleaning and maintenance<\/li>\n<li>Restaurants and food services<\/li>\n<li>Agriculture<\/li>\n<li>Personal care and domestic assistance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, regional differences were identified as a cause for concern.<\/p>\n<p>States such as <a href=\"https:\/\/queonnda.com\/en\/warning-for-undocumented-immigrants-in-texas-5-things-about-sb4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Texas<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/queonnda.com\/en\/police-allied-with-ice-georgias-controversial-hb-1105-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Georgia<\/a> and North Carolina show even larger wage margins, especially when Latino employees are undocumented or work per diem.<\/p>\n<p>Even with the same experience, hours or responsibility, simply being Latino can mean you get paid less.<\/p>\n<h2>Why is this happening?<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_38913\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38913\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-38913 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/queonnda.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/latinos-ganan-menos-02.jpg\" alt=\"latinos earn less, paycheck, salary, hispanic workers, Qu\u00e9Onnda\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1189\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-38913\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image created by Qu\u00e9Onnda with the help of Artificial Intelligence (GPT)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The causes are multiple:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Discrimination (sometimes overt, sometimes very subtle)<\/li>\n<li>Employers taking advantage of immigration status<\/li>\n<li>Lack of clear contracts or labor protection<\/li>\n<li>Fear of whistleblowing for fear of losing job or facing retaliation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Most Latino workers do not complain or report abuses out of necessity or ignorance of their rights.<\/p>\n<p>And that perpetuates the problem.<\/p>\n<h2>What can you do?<\/h2>\n\n<p>Even if you don&#8217;t have papers, you have rights as a worker. Here are steps that can help protect you:<\/p>\n<p>\u2705 Keep as many records as possible: hours worked, messages, cash or deposit payments, photos.<br \/>\n\u2705 Talk to colleagues: if it happens to you, it may happen to them too.<br \/>\n\u2705 Seek free legal help from organizations such as: Centro de los Derechos del Migrante (CDM), Legal Aid Foundation, LatinoJustice PRLDEF.<br \/>\n\u2705 Never sign unread or uncopied documents<\/p>\n<p>Even the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Labor<\/a> can investigate complaints of unfair pay, regardless of your immigration status.<\/p>\n<h2>You are not alone<\/h2>\n<p>Inequality is not fixed in silence.<\/p>\n<p>Reporting is not only valid, it is necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Because no worker should earn less just because of his or her last name, the language he or she speaks, or because he or she was born in another country.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p style=\"color: #fd9737;\">Latinos continue to earn less, and in some states, the wage gap is wider than ever<\/p><cite>QueOnnda.com<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the United States, millions of people work hard every day.
