Una intensa ola de calor afecta a Estados Unidos, con m\u00e1s de 130 millones de personas bajo alerta por temperaturas extremas, seg\u00fan el Servicio Meteorol\u00f3gico Nacional (NWS). Las altas temperaturas, que superan los 37\u202f\u00b0C (100\u202f\u00b0F) en varias regiones, han llevado al Departamento de Energ\u00eda a declarar una emergencia el\u00e9ctrica en el sureste del pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n

Este 24 de junio de 2025, el Departamento de Energ\u00eda emiti\u00f3 una orden de emergencia autorizando a Duke Energy Carolinas a operar ciertas unidades generadoras a m\u00e1xima capacidad para satisfacer la demanda el\u00e9ctrica durante la ola de calor. Esta medida busca evitar apagones y garantizar el suministro el\u00e9ctrico en Carolina del Norte y del Sur. The extreme heat wave and its impact on public health is alarming.<\/p>\n

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association revealed that heat-related deaths in the U.S. increased 117% between 1999 and 2023. <\/p>\n

From 1,069 to 2,325 deaths per year.<\/p>\n

This increase coincides with the rise in temperatures due to climate change.<\/p>\n

Local authorities in cities such as New York, Boston and Philadelphia have declared states of emergency due to the heat wave.<\/p>\n

They have also set up cooling centers to protect vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children and the homeless.<\/p>\n
