Liga MX had a historic night at the start of the Leagues Cup 2025, completely dominating MLS<\/a> in six binational matches played in the United States and Canada. The Mexican clubs achieved four wins (three in regular time and one on penalties), while only Leon lost in a penalty shootout against Montreal.<\/p>\n

This marks the best debut of Liga MX in this joint tournament since its formal implementation in 2023, consolidating the good moment that Mexican soccer is experiencing at club and national team level against the United States.<\/p>\n

Of the six matches, three were outright wins for Liga MX clubs (Puebla, Tigres and Pachuca), while the other two wins came via penalty kicks (Toluca and Mazatl\u00e1n).<\/p>\n

Only Leon was unable to win, losing from the penalty spot to the Canadian team.<\/p>\n

Mexico imposes regional dominance in 2025<\/h2>\n

This dominance of Liga MX is not isolated.<\/p>\n

In 2025, Mexican soccer has had an outstanding performance at the national team level.<\/p>\n

The Mexican National Team, coached by Javier “Vasco” Aguirre, won the Concacaf Nations League championship for the first time.<\/p>\n

It also retained its Gold Cup title, defeating the United States in the final.<\/p>\n

Both titles made Mexico the first team to win the region’s two major tournaments in the same year, and now the good momentum extends to the club level.<\/p>\n

Rivalry ignited with MLS<\/strong>
\nThe result of this first matchday not only reflects the quality of the Liga MX teams, but also rekindles the historic rivalry between Mexico and the United States in CONCACAF football.<\/p>\n

The Leagues Cup, which brings together teams from both leagues, has become a key stage for measuring strength and pride.<\/p>\n
