President Donald Trump’s administration has begun painting the border wall with Mexico black to raise the temperature of the metal bars and make it more difficult to climb, as part of its efforts to reduce undocumented immigration.<\/p>\n

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the new strategy on Wednesday, seven months after the Republican president came to the White<\/a> House with the promise to reduce undocumented immigration to zero.<\/p>\n

“This wall is part of the difference. Too high to climb. Too narrow to cross. And now, by order of the president, it will be painted black, so hot to the touch that illegal immigrants won’t even try,” the official said in a message<\/a> in X.<\/p>\n

Noem was at a section of the southern border fence in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, on Tuesday, where he explained to agents the White House’s new strategy to increase the temperature of the currently brown metal structure and thus make it more difficult to climb, as well as increase the metal’s lifespan.<\/p>\n

The secretary explained that the new painting was done “specifically” at the request of President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

He stressed that the renovation of the border fence will help Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents do their job.<\/p>\n

“It is both shield and symbol – a monument to President Trump’s unwavering commitment to this country and the safety of the American people,” he added.<\/p>\n

The funds to renovate the border fence and the new construction, which is progressing at a rate of about 800 meters per day, according to the data given by Noem, were allocated in the budget law approved last July.<\/p>\n

The White House is also investing in technology, cameras, sensors and river infrastructure on the southwest border, EFE reported.<\/p>\n
