On a historic night for Latin baseball, Miguel Cairo, interim manager of the Washington Nationals, and Carlos Mendoza, manager of the New York Mets<\/a>, faced off for the first time in MLB history as the first Venezuelan managers to manage against each other.<\/p>\n

This moment, which filled the U.S. Hispanic community with pride, occurred during the game held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.<\/p>\n

Miguel Cairo, born in Anaco, Venezuela, took over as interim manager of the Nationals on July 7, 2025, following layoffs at the team.<\/p>\n

Cairo, a former infielder with 17 years in the MLB, was recognized for his work ethic and close leadership in both his playing and coaching careers.<\/p>\n

Carlos Mendoza, a native of Barquisimeto, Venezuela, was named manager of the Mets in November 2023.<\/p>\n

With coaching experience in the Major Leagues and the Venezuelan League, Mendoza quickly positioned himself as a Latin benchmark, leading his team to the postseason since his debut season.<\/p>\n
