U.S. President Donald Trump issued a strong warning to the state of Maryland this Sunday, August 24, 2025, threatening to deploy federal troops and to withdraw funds earmarked for the reconstruction of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.<\/p>\n

In a post on Truth Social<\/a>, his social network, Trump sharply criticized Maryland Democratic Governor Wes Moore.<\/p>\n

After he invited him to tour the streets of the state, particularly in Baltimore, Maryland’s most populous city.<\/p>\n

“Wes Moore asked me, in a nasty and provocative tone, to accompany him on a tour of the streets of Maryland.<\/p>\n

“I assume you’re referring to Baltimore, an out-of-control, crime-ridden city.<\/p>\n

“As president, I would rather he clean up that crime mess than take a walk,” Trump wrote.<\/p>\n

The president added that if the governor “needs help,” he would be willing to send troops.<\/p>\n

This has raised concerns about the possibility of federal intervention in local security matters.<\/p>\n

In the same message, Trump recalled that the federal government has already allocated resources for the reconstruction of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.<\/p>\n

A key transportation infrastructure in the Baltimore area that collapsed in 2024 after being struck by the container ship Dali.<\/p>\n

The president noted that he gave Maryland “a lot of money to fix their demolished bridge,” but suggested that he might now reconsider that decision.<\/p>\n

It should be noted that funding for that work was approved by Congress and enacted at the time by former President Joe Biden, before Trump took office in January 2025.<\/p>\n

The bridge, vital for freight and vehicular traffic on the East Coast, has been in the planning process for reconstruction, with an initial budget in the billions of dollars.<\/p>\n

The threat to withdraw funds creates uncertainty about the continuity of the project and the economic impact on Maryland.<\/p>\n
