Tens of thousands of people participated this Monday in more than a thousand protests against U.S. President Donald Trump on the occasion of Labor Day in the United States, and accuse the tycoon of favoring the big fortunes to the detriment of the working class.<\/p>\n

The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations called for more than 1,000 protests across the country, especially in the Democratic states of California, New York and Illinois, under the slogan ‘Workers Over Billionaires.”<\/p>\n

The purpose of the demonstrations is to stop what they consider “the takeover” by the big fortunes, for which they demand an increase in the financing of public services, investment in people instead of wars and the protection of the education system.<\/p>\n

One of the largest mobilizations is taking place in the city of Chicago, where this holiday coincides with a time of particular tension over the possible militarization of the city by the U.S. government.<\/p>\n

“This is not a democracy,” several of the demonstrators were heard chanting, as they danced to the rhythm of the music and advanced holding banners or placards.<\/p>\n

One, held by a man, read, “No troops in Chicago,” while another carried by a woman read, “Stop deportations, defend migrants,” making it clear that the two issues had been conflated with the Labor Day protests.<\/p>\n

“Trump is one of the billionaires who is tearing our country apart, he is playing a role in lining up critical agencies to line his pockets and those of his billionaire friends,” one of the organization’s members accused the president, during a speech.<\/p>\n

The Donald Trump Administration has hinted at its desire to soon deploy the National Guard<\/a> to Chicago to fight crime in the city, as it did recently in Washington D.C.<\/p>\n

But as happened in the capital, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has rejected the idea, which he lamented is part of a plan to increase raids against undocumented migrants in the city.<\/p>\n

Similar protests took place in other parts of the United States. In the capital, thousands of union members and workers took to the streets to demonstrate against Donald Trump and his takeover of the city. <\/p>\n

In Los Angeles, where Trump deployed thousands of military personnel last June to stop protests against immigration raids, demonstrations are called for this afternoon.<\/p>\n

Demonstrations are also scheduled in hundreds of smaller cities.<\/p>\n

The United States experienced similar protests against Donald Trump on July 4, Independence Day, or on June 14, the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army, which coincided with his 79th birthday, before which he organized a colorful military parade that was criticized for projecting “an autocratic image”, according to EFE.<\/p>\n
