U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday, September 15, 2025, that he will deploy the National Guard and take federal control of security in the city of Memphis, Tennessee, which he called “four times” more dangerous than Mexico City.<\/p>\n

“A person is four times more likely to be killed in Memphis today than in Mexico City,” he said during a press conference at the White House.<\/p>\n

“And you know, Mexico City is not exactly a cakewalk,” Donald Trump concluded to close his comparison between the criminality of the city of Memphis with that of the Mexican capital.<\/p>\n

During the event, Trump signed a proclamation to bring the National Guard to Memphis and was endorsed by Tennessee Republican Governor Bill Lee.<\/p>\n

Lee welcomed the intervention of federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI<\/a>), which according to the White House will have agents on the streets of the city.<\/p>\n

The proclamation does not detail exact dates or other details of the deployment.<\/p>\n

Threatens to send troops to more cities<\/h2>\n\n

The US president’s decision comes a month after Trump federalized Washington D.C., where the National Guard remains deployed and where he claims to have reduced crime rates to almost non-existent levels.<\/p>\n

This despite statistics showing that the U.S. capital recorded its lowest number of homicides in three decades.<\/p>\n

Donald Trump has threatened to deploy federal forces to other cities governed by Democratic mayors despite their opposition, such as Baltimore or Chicago, which he said will be “next” to receive troops.<\/p>\n
