{"id":83960,"date":"2025-09-29T19:15:29","date_gmt":"2025-09-29T23:15:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/queonnda.com\/california-passes-first-ai-safety-law-in-the-u-s\/"},"modified":"2025-09-29T19:16:01","modified_gmt":"2025-09-29T23:16:01","slug":"california-passes-first-ai-safety-law-in-the-u-s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/queonnda.com\/en\/california-passes-first-ai-safety-law-in-the-u-s\/","title":{"rendered":"California passes first AI safety law in the U.S."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>California Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday, Sept. 29, signed a first-in-the-U.S. law requiring the largest artificial intelligence (AI) companies to publicly disclose their security protocols, putting the state in the lead on increased industry accountability.<\/p>\n<p>The Transparency in Frontier Artificial Intelligence Act (TFAIA) was designed based on the recommendations of California&#8217;s first national report released earlier this year, submitted by experts in this area, following growing concerns about the risks posed by AI.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>California AI Safety Act<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Today, I&#8217;m signing legislation to install common-sense guardrails ensuring the safety and further development of cutting-edge AI systems.<\/p>\n<p>California is proving that it&#8217;s possible to both protect people and ensure our state&#8217;s growing industries continue to shape the future.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Governor Gavin Newsom (@CAgovernor)  <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CAgovernor\/status\/1972759798468010092?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 29, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\n&#8220;California has shown that we can put regulations in place to protect our communities while ensuring that the growing AI industry continues to thrive. This legislation strikes that balance,&#8221; Newsom said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The Democrat stressed that California, as the fourth largest economy in the world, continues to be a leader in driving national and global legislation on artificial intelligence security, which builds public &#8220;trust&#8221; as this emerging technology rapidly evolves.<\/p>\n<p>The bill passed was the second AI regulatory bill introduced by Senator Scott Wiener, who last year tried to pass a broader measure that triggered a debate with major companies such as Meta and OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT.<\/p>\n\n<p>The legislator emphasized that his victory will place the <a href=\"https:\/\/queonnda.com\/en\/california-prohibits-ice-agents-from-concealing-their-identity-after-controversial-raids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">state<\/a> as a world leader in the commitment to security.<\/p>\n<p>He highlighted that the U.S. Senate recently voted 99-1 to remove provisions in President Donald Trump&#8217;s funding bill, passed last July, that would have prevented states from enacting AI regulations.<\/p>\n<p>California law also requires large technology companies to report critical security incidents and protect whistleblowers.<\/p>\n<p>It also drives an industrial policy for AI through the creation of &#8220;CalCompute&#8221;, a public cloud computing cluster that provides AI infrastructure for startups and researchers.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p style=\"color: #fd9737;\">California ha demostrado que podemos establecer regulaciones para proteger a nuestras comunidades y, al mismo tiempo, garantizar que la creciente industria de la IA siga prosperando.
