What is DACA and who is excluded?<\/h2>\n

DACA is a federal program that temporarily protects those who came to the United States as minors and lacked legal status.<\/p>\n

However, under this new Texas measure<\/a>, those who are beneficiaries of this protection or are in the process of obtaining it will not be able to secure or renew a state driver’s license.<\/p>\n

Also, asylees and refugees will not be able to access these licenses under the current restriction, impacting thousands of people living and working in Texas with temporarily protected status.<\/p>\n

Reasons for the restriction<\/h2>\n

According to the official statement from the DPS, the main intention is to limit the number of people obtaining licenses, mainly those who use vehicles to transport goods or passengers for commercial purposes.<\/p>\n

This change went into effect on September 29, and the authorities insist that the measure seeks to “safeguard safety on Texas highways”.<\/p>\n
