Colombian soccer player Santiago Castrillón, 18 years old and number 10 in the youth division of the Millonarios club, died in Bogotá a day after collapsing during a game of the National Under-20 Tournament, the capital’s team announced.
According to a Millonarios press release, the incident occurred on Saturday, March 21, when the player collapsed in the middle of the game against Santa Fe and was immediately attended to by the team’s medical staff, who took him by ambulance to a hospital in the city.

The player was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he remained under specialized cardiovascular care.
But despite medical efforts, he failed to recover and passed away on Sunday night.
“Today soccer stops. The blue heart is broken (…) Santiago did not only play soccer”.
“He lived it, he felt it, he shared it with a smile that today remains tattooed on all of us.”
The club said in a message, in which it bid farewell to its “number 10” and highlighted not only his talent, but also his joy and passion for the game.

Falcao and FCF fire Castrillon

Veteran striker Radamel Falcao, who returned to the team in January, mourned the loss and said:
“We are leaving a colleague full of dreams, unmatched talent and with a bright future ahead of him.”
He said, while sending a message of solidarity to his family members.
The Colombian Football Federation (FCF) recalled that the player, a native of Bucaramanga, had recently been called up to the U-19 national team, under the technical direction of César Torres.
He highlighted his dedication and commitment on the field.
“Santiago will be remembered for his passion for soccer, his dedication at every opportunity and the joy with which he lived the game.”
