Miss Universe Fatima Bosch expressed on Monday her support and admiration for immigrants and assured that she will do everything she can for them as a beauty queen, during her first visit to the Mexican consulate in New York, after winning the pageant last November 21 in Thailand.

The 25-year-old Mexican woman began her day by attending mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, where she prayed before the altar of the Virgin of Guadalupe, patron saint of her country and of America, an event organized by Fuerza Migrante, a movement and platform that seeks the social and economic empowerment of Mexican migrants in the U.S. and Mexico, after which she visited the consulate.

Bosch, who was welcomed by Consul Marcos Bucio Mujica, other diplomats and community leaders, said that supporting immigrants is a cause “that I have been working for for a long time” while expressing her admiration for this community.

“It is an honor, a pleasure to be here and greet all our immigrant brothers and sisters and tell them that this is a cause for which I have been working for a long time,” said Miss Universe as she addressed the group of Mexicans who were waiting for her, very excited and proud of the fourth Mexican to win the coveted beauty title.

“I really like to support them because I believe that the courage to leave where you live, your family, what you were to reinvent yourself and seek new opportunities deserves all our support and admiration, especially that this issue is made more visual in all platforms,” he said in his message in the Octavio Paz room of the consulate in Manhattan.

The beauty queen, who studied fashion design, wore tight black leggings, black shoes and a red jacket with gold trim on the cuffs and arrived smiling to the room with Bucio Mujica and other consulate staff amidst applause, “viva Mexico” and “viva Fatima”.

On his Instagram page, there is a message to “all our migrant brothers” in which he announces the creation of hooded sweatshirts “with phrases looking for all of us to show solidarity with them and see that from here (Mexico) we support them”.

“As a designer, I have always felt a commitment to join social causes that inspire and unite us, because fashion can also be a voice of empathy and change,” states the message, published a few months ago.

He called to “open doors” and to “always seek to help our brothers and sisters and I repeat: borders exist only on maps because they do not exist in the heart”.

For his part, the consul explained to Bosch the services provided in the Octavio Paz hall, where works of art by Mexican artists are exhibited, the achievements of Mexicans like her are celebrated, but also weddings.

He emphasized that she embodies the resilience, talent and strength of Mexican women inside and outside her country, expressed the respect of the community and also gave Bosch, who has just begun her reign from New York, headquarters of the organization and where she will live for a year, some advice: “take care of your health, your peace of mind, your inner peace and you will get ahead,” reported Agencia EFE.
