Spanish defender Jordi Alba, one of Inter Miami’s key players, received a financial penalty from the MLS Disciplinary Committee in the run-up to the MLS Cup 2025 grand final. The league confirmed that the measure is due to an action recorded during the Eastern Conference Final, where Inter Miami faced New York City FC on November 29.

According to the official statement, Jordi Alba was fined for violating the league’s policy on hand contact to an opponent’s face, head or neck, a strictly regulated rule due to the physical risk involved. The incident occurred in the 22nd minute of the match. Although MLS decided to impose a financial fine, it made it clear that there will be no suspension, meaning that the left back is fully eligible to play in Saturday’s final. The league did not disclose the financial amount of the sanction, as is usually the case in internal disciplinary cases. The statement remarked that the offense was reviewed through the usual protocol following playoff games.

In the same disciplinary resolution, MLS reported that Hirving “Chucky” Lozano, San Diego FC attacker, was fined for making an inappropriate gesture.

This occurred in the 60th minute of the match against Vancouver Whitecaps in the Western Conference Final.

Although the sanction was applied, it has no immediate sporting impact, as San Diego FC was eliminated and did not advance to the final.

Inter Miami comes into MLS Cup 2025 on the heels of a solid playoff campaign:

Defeated Nashville SC in the direct elimination series,
beat FC Cincinnati in the semifinals,
and defeated New York City FC to be crowned Eastern Conference champion.

Meanwhile, Vancouver Whitecaps advanced from the Western Conference after eliminating FC Dallas, defeating LAFC and beating San Diego FC to secure their ticket to the title match.

The final will be played at Chase Stadium, home of Inter Miami, which gives the “Herons” home field advantage.

The league did not reveal the financial amount of the sanction
