Cuban actor Mario Cimarro, internationally known for starring in soap operas such as Pasión de gavilanes, El cuerpo del deseo and Mar de amor, is going through one of the most painful moments of his life.
Away from television for several years, the 54-year-old performer took to his social networks to confirm the death of his mother, María Paz, who passed away on Monday, December 1, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Through an emotionally charged message, Cimarro expressed that it was “several weeks of supporting mom,” acknowledging how difficult it was for him to find the strength to write:
“It is with a broken heart that I share with you… It has been several weeks of supporting Mom. I have looked for a thousand ways to stop, to be able to write. Since Monday she is no longer with us. She left in good company, with the love of her children and with the blessing of her priest”.
The actor emphasized that his mother was sent off in peace and surrounded by her family, something especially meaningful for people facing such debilitating neurodegenerative diseases as Alzheimer’s disease.
A long battle against Alzheimer’s disease
Mario Cimarro revealed in 2021 that his mother had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, a disease that affects memory and other cognitive functions and profoundly impacts sufferers and their families.
In that interview, granted to María Celeste Arrarás, she explained that the diagnosis took the whole family by surprise, since there was no previous history of any kind in her family history.
Alzheimer’s, which affects more than 6 million people in the U.S. according to the Alzheimer’s Association, involves a number of physical and emotional challenges, especially for caregivers.
For many Hispanic immigrants in the country, caring for elderly relatives represents one of the greatest acts of responsibility and love within the family structure. Cimarro’s case resonates with that reality.
A mother teacher, guide and example
In his message, Mario Cimarro described his mother as a deeply influential figure in his life.
He recalled that she was a teacher for several generations and a woman of patience, temperance and vocation.
He pointed out that it was he who, with dedication, taught him to read and write when he was only three years old, the same age that his own son is today.
“The exemplary mother who taught me with a lot of patience and dedication… Who raised and educated me to face life and its challenges with calm, serenity and resilience.”
The actor also wrote about the strength with which his mother faced the disease: “She fought like a champion. We will miss her a lot, we will always remember her”.

In one of the most emotional parts of the message, Mario Cimarro shared a warm image for those who follow him since his days as a soap opera star:

He closed his post by thanking all the expressions of support he has received: “Thank you for your respectful expressions of affection in the face of our grief”.
Although he has not returned to television projects since Pasión de Gavilanes 2 in 2022, the actor has remained active on social networks, sharing moments of his personal life, especially since the arrival of his first child with his partner, Slovakian model Bronislava Gregušová.
The passing of his mother marks a deeply painful chapter, but also a reminder of the family bond that has guided his life.
