The singer Mariah Carey has once again broken all music records at Christmas and has managed to keep her famous carol “All I Want for Christmas Is You” for 20 weeks at number 1 on the ‘Billboard Hot 100!’ list, something not achieved so far by any other song.
The song, originally released in 1994, beats the No. 1 of two hits that topped the Hot 100 for one release cycle each – Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” in 2024 and Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus in 2019, Billboard magazine recalls.
Carey takes the Hot 100 No. 1 longevity record for the second time. In 1995-96, “One Sweet Day” performed by her and Boyz II Men dominated the chart for 16 weeks, a mark that held until it was matched by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” featuring Justin Bieber in 2017.

In addition, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has now spent 77 weeks on the Hot 100, equaling Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” as the longest charting track by a female artist.
The American singer’s popular pop carol was released on the album ‘Merry Christmas’ in November 1994 and, with the rise of streaming and the increasing presence of Christmas music on playlists, it reached the top 10 for the first time in December 2017 and the top 5 in the 2018 holiday season, according to the magazine.
Finally, it led the list during the 2019 (three weeks), 2020 (two), 2021 (three), 2022 (four), 2023 (two) and 2024 (four) holidays.
The Hot 100 combines streaming data for all U.S. genres (official audio and video), radio airplay and sales.
Luminate, Billboard’s independent provider of chart data, conducts an exhaustive review of all data submitted to compile the weekly rankings, reported Agencia EFE.
