Leagues Cup 2026: Inter Miami, Toluca and Tigres, top seeds

Ranking determined the tournament matchups

Inter Miami will be one of the seeded teams in the next edition of the Leagues Cup, to be played between August 4 and September 6, with Toluca, Tigres, America and Cruz Azul as the top-ranked Mexican teams.

This tournament, which pits the 18 Liga MX teams against the top 18 MLS clubs, will return to the format of the last edition, in which the Seattle Sounders were crowned champions after defeating Inter Miami 3-0 in the final.

As announced Tuesday in a press release, the first phase of the Leagues Cup will feature 54 matches.

In which each club will play against three teams from the opposite league.

MLS and Liga MX will have separate tables, with the top four teams from each advancing to the quarterfinals.

In this elimination phase, inter-league clashes will be guaranteed.

To determine the crossings, which will be known soon, the organization prepared a ranking of all the teams based on the points achieved during the last season.

In the case of Liga MX, the results of the Apertura and Clausura were taken into account.

Toluca, Tigres, América and Cruz Azul occupied the first four positions.

For MLS, the regular phase of the last season was taken into consideration.

In which Philadelphia Union finished with the most points, followed by Cincinnati and Inter Miami.

The last edition of the Leagues Cup was a success for MLS teams.

They obtained a majority of victories over the Mexican teams and occupied the four semifinal berths.

Unlike MLS, which this tournament takes place in the middle of the season, Liga MX starts at the end of August.

Since the renewal of the format, only MLS teams have won this trophy, which grants a direct pass to the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

The Leagues Cup was the first title lifted by Inter Miami in its history, just weeks after the signing of Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets in the summer of 2023.
