The announcement of the 2026 Oscar nominations once again placed Emma Stone at the center of the international film conversation. At just 37 years old, the American actress became the second youngest person and the youngest woman to achieve seven Oscar nominations, a mark that cements her place among the industry’s greats.

Until now, the only artist who had surpassed that number at an earlier age was Walt Disney, who earned seven nominations at age 34 in 1936. In the case of women, the record was held by Meryl Streep, who earned her seventh nomination at the age of 38 in 1988. Stone, by surpassing that mark, demonstrates not only constancy, but an artistic evolution that keeps her current and competitive in Hollywood’s most ambitious projects.

Emma Stone and her double nomination

One of the highlights of this achievement is that Emma Stone has earned a double nomination for the second time for the same project. In the film Bugonia, the performer appears in both the Best Leading Actress and Producer categories, something rare in the recent history of the awards.

According to The Hollywood Reporter records, the first actress to achieve this feat was Frances McDormand thanks to Nomadland in 2021. Stone previously repeated the achievement with Poor Things in 2023 and now consolidates it again with Bugonia, confirming her creative weight not only in front of the camera, but also behind it.

Before this new nomination, Emma Stone had already accumulated five Oscar nominations, two of which resulted in statuettes for Best Actress. The first came in 2016 for her memorable performance in La La Land, and the second in 2023 for Poor Things. Now she is competing for her third Oscar as a leading lady, an achievement reserved only for film legends.

To date, only two actresses have won three Oscars for Best Leading Actress: Katharine Hepburn, with a historic total of four statuettes, and Frances McDormand, with three. Although other iconic figures such as Ingrid Bergman and Meryl Streep also have three awards, in their cases two are for Supporting Actress and only one for Leading Actress.

Strong competition in the main categories

In the Best Actress category, Stone shares a nomination with Jessie Buckley for Hamnet, Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Kate Hudson for Song Sung Blue and Renate Reinsve for Sentimental Value. It is a diverse and competitive line-up, which anticipates one of the closest votes of the upcoming ceremony.

Bugonia is also among the nominees for Best Picture, competing with titles such as F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value and Sinners.

In addition to the main categories, the film received important mentions in Best Adapted Screenplay, headed by the work of Will Tracy, and Best Original Score, composed by Jerskin Fendrix. These nominations reinforce the artistic and technical relevance of the project.

With this new milestone, Emma Stone confirms that she is going through one of the most solid moments of her career, consolidating herself as one of the most influential and respected actresses of her generation.
