More Americans believe that Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny represents the United States better than President Donald Trump, according to a poll released Friday by Yahoo and the consulting firm YouGov.
The poll, conducted days after the halftime show of Super Bowl LX starring the singer last Sunday, gives the artist 42% of mentions as the best reflection of the country, compared to 39% who are inclined to the Republican president, who has shown his rejection of the Boricua’s performance.
The numbers show a strong politicization in the reactions to the show: 78% of Democrats view Bad Bunny favorably and only 7% disapprove. Among Republicans, these figures are practically opposite, with 12 % in favor and 70 % against.
The gap widens among independent voters, where 46% see Bad Bunny as best embodying America’s values, while only 27% choose Trump.
Bad Bunny has shown his rejection of the Republican administration’s immigration policies. His choice as the central figure of the Super Bowl halftime show has been harshly criticized by Trump, who later called the performance, the first performed entirely in Spanish at the sporting event, “terrible”.
Bad Bunny and the message he received from Trump for his show

“The Super Bowl halftime show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst in history!” the president said on his Truth Social network.
He added, “It makes no sense, is an affront to America’s greatness and does not represent our standards of success, creativity or excellence.”
However, 44% of respondents approved of the choice of Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio as halftime performer, compared to 35% who disapprove.
In addition, only 11% considered it inappropriate that the performance was entirely in Spanish, with the exception of the appearance of singer Lady Gaga, who performed a salsa version of her hit ‘Die with a smile’ in the show.
The Puerto Rican closed his performance with a message about the unity of the Americas, naming all the countries of the continent and giving new meaning to ‘God Bless America’ – which in the U.S. is used to refer only to the North American nation instead of the entire continent – a speech that 60% of those polled approved of.
The poll has a margin of error of 3% and was conducted on a sample of 1,704 adults, reported Agencia EFE.
