In the world of politics, there are questions that never die, and one of the most persistent is what U.S. presidents really know about life outside our planet.
Former President Barack Obama reignited social media by addressing the issue with a mix of humor and mystery during an interview on journalist Brian Tyler Cohen’s podcast.

During a dynamic rapid-fire Q&A, the podcaster threw out the question that millions of people would want to ask a former U.S. president, “Are aliens real?”
With his characteristic calm, Obama nodded and responded with a phrase that is already a headline around the world: “They are real, but I have not seen them.
Although his response was brief, the impact was immediate.
Obama acknowledged that, although he has not had a “close encounter” in person, the existence of phenomena that science and the military cannot yet explain is a fact that is taken seriously at the highest levels of government.
The myth of Area 51 and conspiracies
One of the most interesting points of the talk was his mention of the enigmatic Area 51, a military base in Nevada.
When questioned about whether the government is hiding specimens or craft at Area 51, Obama denied the existence of secret underground facilities dedicated to that purpose, at least to his knowledge.
“They are not being hidden at Area 51. There is no facility underground, unless there is a huge conspiracy and they are hiding it from the President of the United States himself,” he commented with a chuckle, leaving a small crack open to interpretation by enthusiasts of the subject.
Presidential curiosity from day one
Obama confessed that his interest in the phenomenon did not begin after leaving office.
In fact, he revealed that one of the first questions he asked upon entering the Oval Office in 2009 was precisely, “Where are the aliens?”
This curiosity underlines that, even for the most powerful man in the world, the mystery of the cosmos is an unfinished business.
It should be recalled that it was not until 2013 that the CIA declassified documents officially confirming the existence of Area 51.
According to records, the base was created by order of Dwight Eisenhower in the 1950s to test the U-2 spy plane.
However, decades of absolute secrecy fueled the theory that the site housed non-human technology, an idea that lives on in American popular culture.
With these statements, Obama joins a growing list of political and military figures who, in the midst of 2026, have begun to normalize the discussion of UAP (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena), suggesting that the truth may be closer than we imagine.
