Deep cleaning in the upper echelons of U.S. law enforcement. After the shocking and humiliating departure of Michael Banks -who left the post dragging accusations of hiring sex workers with public money during official trips-, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced his replacement.

He is Rosario ‘Pete’ Vasquez, a veteran of nearly three decades of experience and a former standard bearer on the northern border with Canada, who will now have the monumental task of cleaning up the agency’s reputation.

Why did Michael Banks leave?

Banks’ fall was not a clean process.

Conservative media outlet The Washington Examiner uncovered a sewer that the agency could not contain: an investigation detailed that the former chief took overseas trips to places like Colombia and Thailand for paid sex.

To top it off, testimonies from six current and former employees revealed that Banks even proudly “bragged” to colleagues about these services during his work assignments.

Who is Rosario Pete Vasquez?

With more than 20,000 agents under his command, ‘Pete’ Vasquez takes the lead at a time of violent restructuring.

DHS is coming off the heels of the dismissal of its Secretary Kristi Noem and Commander Greg Bovino, following global outrage over the mega-operations in Minneapolis earlier this year.

This is where immigration agents killed two U.S. citizens in the midst of brutal confrontations.

Vasquez, who has navigated both the cold northern border in Washington and the desert areas of Yuma and San Diego, as well as the counterterrorism office, tried to show a firm hand in his first official message.

“My priority is clear: to support our agents, strengthen our operations and ensure we are the most effective force in the world,” said Rosario Pete Vasquez.
