Renowned American actor Val Kilmer, famous for his portrayal of Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the iconic 1986 film Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise passed away on April 1, 2025 in Los Angeles at the age of 65 due to complications from pneumonia.

His daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, confirmed the news, noting that her father was surrounded by family and friends in his final moments.

It should be recalled that Kilmer had been diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, from which he subsequently recovered.

During the presentation of the next installment of the Mission Impossible saga at CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas, Tom Cruise, Kilmer’s co-star in Top Gun and its sequel Top Gun: Maverick (2022), paid an emotional tribute to the late actor.

According to Variety, Cruise requested a moment of silence in Kilmer’s honor and expressed.

“I think it would be really beautiful if we could have a moment together because he loved film and he gave so much to all of us. Just think of all the wonderful moments we had with him.”

Cruise and Kilmer’s professional relationship was noted for their on-screen chemistry, especially in Top Gun, where they played rival U.S. Navy pilots.

Cruise described this reunion as “very special” and highlighted Kilmer’s powerful acting presence.
