More than four years after Diego Armando Maradona’s death, the trial against the health professionals accused of his death continues to generate impact. This week, the testimonies of Dalma Maradona, the star’s daughter, and Verónica Ojeda, his ex-partner and mother of his youngest son, revealed new and harsh accusations that expose an alleged systematic medical negligence.
Dalma, in a radio interview, crudely expressed her frustration at being cut off from medical decisions. “They were telling us that everything was going to be fine, while the chats showed that they were making fun of my dad. They lied to my face,” she stated firmly. She also recalled the leaked messages in which the medical team referred to Maradona with contempt. One of the most outrageous: “Leave him there that he is sh*t…. dying”.
“There were no doctors, I was alone”

During her testimony before the court, Verónica Ojeda also denounced serious irregularities.
According to him, neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque and psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov assured them that Maradona would receive full medical attention at home.
They told us he'd have an ambulance, doctors, and he was alone with a guard. I wanted to take him because he was disfigured

Ojeda, in tears, also spoke of the impact this situation had on her son, Diego Fernando, 12.
“He suffered a lot seeing his dad like that,” she confessed.
Ojeda’s statement held firm, even when the judges offered a recess due to his emotional state.

During the trial, text messages were presented between Cosachov and psychologist Carlos Díaz, in which they mocked Ojeda:
“Que la chupe Ojeda,” Díaz wrote, in response to a complaint about the lack of medical attention.
It was also reported that Luque, the main defendant, consumed alcohol together with Maradona, aggravating the condition of the ex-football player, who had a history of addictions.
The judicial process involves eight health professionals, among them Luque, Cosachov, Diaz, and Dr. Nancy Forlini of Swiss Medical.
Also charged are the physician Pedro Di Spagna, the coordinator Mariano Perroni, and the nurse Ricardo Almirón.
Nurse Gisela Madrid will be tried by jury, at the request of her defense.
Judges Maximiliano Savarino, Verónica Di Tommaso and Julieta Makintach will have to determine whether the defendants are guilty of simple intentional homicide, a crime that could carry up to 25 years in prison.
