Nyny Jhoanna Montaña Rodríguez, a 31-year-old Colombian woman from San Eduardo, Boyacá, was found dead on May 28, 2025, inside an unplugged freezer in a restaurant in the El Dorado shopping center in Panajachel, Sololá, Guatemala.
Montaña had been reported missing five days earlier, on May 23, after losing contact with her family. The restaurant where she was found belonged to her romantic partner, a basketball player who, according to reports, had left the country days before the discovery.
Circumstances of the finding and progress of the investigation

Nyny Montaña had moved to Guatemala more than a decade ago in the hope of improving her and her daughter’s quality of life.
He sold second-hand clothing imported from the United States, known as “ropa de paca”, in the municipalities of San Lucas Tolimán and Panajachel.
Nyny’s body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, lying on cardboard and with her cell phone by her side.
The details surrounding the mystery of death

According to the spokesman for the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Guatemala, Moisés Ortiz, the freezer was unplugged and was apparently used by the victim to spend the night.
Although no visible signs of violence were found, the case was transferred to the Prosecutor’s Office against the crime of Femicide for a thorough investigation.
The National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) is carrying out an examination to determine the exact cause of death, the results of which could take up to three months.
Nyny’s family has ruled out the possibility of an overdose and is demanding that all lines of investigation be exhausted.
Reactions from family and friends

The news of Nyny’s passing has shocked her loved ones and the community.
His sister, Tatiana Montaña, who lives in Spain, traveled to Guatemala with her aunt Nina to arrange the repatriation of the body.
